Sending out an SOS

Sending out an SOS

With the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) the world is facing a new health challenge.  Infection rates are high and there is currently no known cure.  That said, the mortality rates are less than the flu.  The international health community and government leaders are taking emergency measures to stop and contain the spread, whilst searching for a vaccine.

Here are some things you can do to help avoid acquiring any virus and to recover from it faster.

  • The first and most important rule is to wash your hands frequently.  Wash your hands with soap and water thoroughly for 20 seconds. Do it as often as possible, especially after going to the bathroom, touching surfaces and sneezing or coughing.
  • Avoid touching your nose, eyes and mouth.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Clean areas with disinfectant wipes/spray.
  • If you get sick.  Stay at home and contact your medical provider for what to do next.
  • Whilst SOS is not a cure for viral illness’, maintaining proper hydration levels will help speed your recovery.
    • One of the main side effects of viral infections is dehydration. The body combats viruses by increasing its temperature (fever); this means that you lose more water through evaporation and breathing. Viruses will also make you feel less hungry and some may even cause diarrhea and vomiting. One of the best natural ways to combat viral illness is through proper hydration. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids. SOShelps you combat an infection and facilitates speedier recovery.  Staying hydrated also helps healthcare workers in HAZMAT suits continue their excellent care of patients.
  • Only wear a facemask if affected.  Research has shown this doesn’t protect people from the virus.
